The Pastoral Ministry
The Return of Christ in New Testament belief and experience

For over forty years, Pastor Albert N. Martin faithfully served the Lord and His people as an elder of Trinity Baptist Church of Montville, New Jersey. Due to increasing and persistent health problems, he stepped down as one of their pastors, and in June, 2008, Pastor Martin and his wife, Dorothy, relocated to Michigan, where they are seeking the Lord's will regarding future ministry. Many have expressed thanks for the spiritual benefit received from Pastor Martin’s topical and expository preaching

Dr Albert N. Martin - Trinity Baptist Church

NT believers were marked by an eager, expectant longing and love for the return of Jesus. It is a distinct evidence of true conversion. Does this describe you?

In these message, Pastor Martin outlines some practical guidelines to assist parents in attaining and maintaining a climate in the home that is like the climate God has with His children--one of warmth, closeness, acceptance and goodwill. These messages give instruction in the use of regular formative discipline as preventive medicine and the need to regularly give your children verbal and tangible reassurances of your love and acceptance of them. The need to cultivate and nurture an interest in your child's world of thinking, interests and activities are also set forth.

In Praise and Defence of marriage, motherhood and homemaking

Dr Albert N. Martin - Trinity Baptist Church

The God-given dignity of our precious women and girls continues to be under relentless attack by the forces of darkness. With a burden to herald the truth of God's Word in addressing pertinent and related issues revolving around this important topic, and while being sensitive to single and childless women, Pastor Martin preached a series of messages entitled, “In Praise and Defence of Marriage, Motherhood and Homemaking”.

The biblical foundation for a right view of marriage, motherhood and homemaking is seen in the light of Creation, the Fall and Redemption. As we look at marriage in the light of redemption, we see God's glorious, gracious, rescue and restore project in which a redeemed marriage is a real mirror image of the relationship between Christ and the
church.

Christians engaged in warfare - Dr Albert N. Martin - Trinity Baptist Church

In every true Christian conversion there is a break with the dominion of sin and a real, constant engagement in warfare with remaining sin.

The Life of Enoch - Dr Albert N. Martin - Trinity Baptist Church

Do you want to know how you may live in an ungodly society by walking with God and witnessing for Him? Then you will want to listen to these messages. Here we see the life of a man who so lived and the outcome of that life. This is a series of four messages on the Life of Enoch preached at the 1993 New England Family Conference.

The opening message lays the groundwork for the series by giving instruction in “how to read, study and preach Biblical History.” Then the focus is on Enoch as our example of a man who walked with God, a man who witnessed for God and a man who went to God.

The fear of God - Dr Albert N. Martin

For years this excellent study has been helping many Christians to “perfect holiness in the fear of God”. Pastor Martin begins, this first of nine messages, by showing us the predominance of the “fear of God” in Biblical thought. Described as “masterful” by Jerry Bridges.

How should we view and keep the Lord's Day (Sunday) as Christians?

Dr Albert N. Martin

Are there Biblical warrants for a unified teaching for a sacred day of conscientious yet joyful observance, of a Day of rest finding it's roots in the Old Testament Sabbath?

Unique place of the Church calling men to ministry

Dr Albert N. Martin - Trinity Baptist Church

What kind of men does the church draw to and set apart for its official ministry? The answer to this question provides a sure index of the state of that church. In the light of this fact, few things are of greater importance in the practical life of any congregation or denomination than its understanding of what constitutes a biblical call to the work of the ministry. Those who are vitally concerned with raising the standard of general godliness and piety in our churches must be concerned with raising the standard for entrance into the Christian ministry.
A help to many over the years, these studies touch the heart of the Christian ministry. Pastor Martin begins these lectures by examining six wrong, though not uncommon, reasons for entering the gospel ministry and then moves to four essential elements of the call. The gifts required for the pastoral office are also examined.

The Passion film - To see or not to see - Dr Albert N. Martin - Trinity Baptist Church

The 'Passion Of The Christ' movie continues to stir spirited discussions and provoke real questions among evangelical Christians.
In an effort to answer requests for guidance from the members of their own congregation, the elders at Trinity requested Pastor Martin to conduct a Sunday School class to that end. This message is an attempt by the pastors of the church to set before the people of God at Trinity the biblical precepts and principles which ought to guide one's conscience in making a righteous decision as each one considers whether or not to see the film.

Pastor Arden Hodgins - Trinity Reformed Baptist Church,

 La Mirada, California

In reaction to infant-baptism and Arminian decisionism, some Reformed Baptists have perhaps gone too far by withholding baptism from professing non-adults. This message deals with the four major objections/concerns that some might have about the baptism of non-adults who make a credible profession of faith.

Dr. Peter Masters accepted a call to the Metropolitan Tabernacle, London where C. H. Spurgeon pastored. He became it's pastor in 1970. It is well said of him that Dr. Masters is 'Spurgeonic' in doctrine and methods, and under his ministry the work of the Tabernacle has grown to include a variety of teaching and caring ministries. He led his people out of the Baptist Union, began to republish The Sword and Trowel, and with his wife Jill, who acts as its co-ordinator, has a thriving Sunday School, possibly the largest in the U.K. Dr. Masters has established the London Reformed Baptist Seminary at the Tabernacle, he is also the author of many books.

Christian Witness in a Post-Christian World 1 Corinthians 9:16

There is a critique of the modern Church Growth movement, a warning on the dangers of emotional manipulation and an impassioned plea for use of the 'old ways' in proclaiming the gospel. Evangelistic gospel preaching, personal witnessing, visitation, the need of Sunday schools, use of good literature, the importance of having a 'working church' and an effective prayer meeting are all emphasised.

Biblical Worship - A Right Understanding   John 4:24

True Biblical worship is under attack. Worship is not just for entertainment, our pleasure or enjoyment. It must be a spiritual activity, be sincere and expressed in words. It must be orderly, and contain elements of praise, repentance and prayer. Several Psalms are examined for guidance on what instruments were permitted in worship and whether dance is an acceptable part of church based worship.

Dr. Masters also provides stimulating guidance on the correct methods of interpreting Scripture so that we are better able to understand the truths and doctrines in God's divinely inspired, infallible and inerrant Word.

The New Evangelical Downgrade - A Betrayal of Truth.  2 Timothy 3:1-5

From its early beginnings in the UK New Evangelicalism came to greater prominence amongst Christian leaders in the USA. Dr. Masters explains that New Evangelicalism is always ecumenical, will deny the inerrancy of the Bible, will not accept the authority and sufficiency of Scripture, will use worldly methods of evangelism and has a low view of worship.

Martin Luther - Lessons from His Life and Times

A lively and detailed address in which we learn how God led this young German friar to discover the great truths of the Bible, which in due time lit the fire of the great Protestant Reformation in Europe. This first session takes us to just before the Diet of Worms. We learn that the Protestant Reformation in Europe really gathered pace following Luther's examination at the Diet of Worms. Dr. Needham also covers aspects in the development of Lutheran worship, Luther's relationship with other Reformers, his differences with the Anabaptists and the dramatic consequences of the Peasant's Revolt.

The Life & Theology of John Calvin

Here we have the beginnings of an overview of the life & theology of one of God's choicest servants. We learn of the impact he had on The Reformation and how significant a debt we owe to this man of God.

The second address in a consideration of the life & theology of John Calvin. Nick Needham continues to explain the impact Calvin had in his own lifetime, and how God used him throughout the ongoing Reformation, and how our understanding of the Reformed faith owes much to his faithfulness and teaching.

In the third series Dr. Nick Needham considers the significance of the Life and Theology of John Calvin, and how this important figure in church history impacted upon a greater understanding of the Reformed Faith.

The message considers Calvin as a reformer of worship, the religious life of Geneva in Calvin's time, the effect that Calvin had on ‘church planting' across Europe, and how the Geneva Academy became a training centre for the Reformed Faith, drawing students from many countries.

Highlights of the reformation

The meeting below was held on Thursday 22nd September 2005 7.30 pm at Bennett's End Baptist Church.

During the message the guest speaker Peter Hallihan shares with the listeners how God worked through men during the great reformation period, and how men and women committed themselves to the Word of God.

The message itself is a helpful journey back in time and is truly a sober reminder of what it really means to live for God. It is both relevant and challenging to Christians in the day and age in which we live.

The attendance on the evening was very good indeed, as many Christians from surrounding churches gathered and were reminded of the need to be faithful. May these historic accounts of the great men of faith continue to spur us on to live more to the glory of God when we live in an age of unsurpassed Christian compromise.

The text was: Hebrews 12:1-2 "Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
